In a dramatic exclusive, staff and passengers trapped inside a crashed aircraft at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu spoke to BBC Somali on Tuesday, recounting the terrifying moments following the incident.
The aircraft, which was attempting to land during severe weather conditions, skidded off the runway and came to rest in a grassy area near the tarmac. While emergency response teams mobilized to the scene, BBC journalists established communication with individuals still inside the fuselage prior to evacuation.

"We are shaken but alive," one crew member told BBC Somali via mobile phone from inside the cabin. "The impact was sudden, and we are waiting for rescue teams to ensure everyone is safely removed." Passengers described a routine descent that turned chaotic in the final moments, with overhead compartments opening and items falling as the plane made hard contact with the ground.
Airport authorities confirmed that all occupants were accounted for, though several individuals sustained minor injuries during the evacuation process. The aircraft, operated by a regional carrier, sustained significant damage to its landing gear.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority has launched an immediate investigation into the cause of the crash, examining potential mechanical failure and weather-related factors. Aden Adde International Airport temporarily suspended operations while recovery teams worked to remove the damaged aircraft.
Officials praised the rapid response of airport fire and rescue services, noting that their swift action prevented what could have been a more serious tragedy.
